Q&A


1.) Tell us a little about quirky beauty.
I started quirkybeauty a year and a half ago when I was planning my wedding. I have a background in art and fashion styling and I used to create headpieces and props for the mannequins I dressed. When I was planning my wedding look I needed a headpiece that evoked the vintage yet modern and natural feel I wanted. I started playing around with trims and bits to make my own headpiece and then it became quite fun. I realised that using pre-made trim was not what I wanted to do so I began to experiment with hand beading and I really enjoy it. I love sewing each bead individually to create a pattern. 2.) What inspires you to create your pieces?
I am inspired by nature, fashion, music and history. I am very sentimental about the past and old things. I'm also a huge anglophile. I love all things English.

3.) What type of girl do you envision wearing your pieces?
I try to create for most any girl. The pieces are designed to add some elegance to any look and anyone can wear them with so many looks.

4.) Any tips on styling or accesorizing with your pieces?
I work with a lot of metallics as I feel they act a neutrals in a wardrobe. You can wear my pieces dressed up or down for most any age group. Wear a statement necklace with a party dress or a distressed t-shirt and little jacket. A headpiece looks great on a bride or out on a date or to a party. There are so many opportunities to wear a little glittering piece. They add a soft character I believe. I also try to make them classic and timeless.

5.) What is your own personal style like?
Right now I'm pregnant so I am wearing a lot of materninty gear - mostly from Topshop. Normally I wear a tom boyish look. Loads of nautical striped shirts, little jackets ( I have a ton), distressed skinny jeans and boyish lace-up ankle boots. Scarves are important as well for a pop of colour/pattern. I wear a lot of English rose prints, stripes or plaid with neutrals mostly in navy, tan, black and grey and a touch of red (my fav. colour). I also love dresses so I wear them a lot too.
