Lavender Cottage Giveaway! {CLOSED}

The Lavender Cottage etsy shop is chock full of beautiful handcrafted jewelry made of metal and stone. Each and every one of Cheryl's creation's are rustic and intriguing. It was hard to narrow down my favorites because every item in her shop is so great! I was stoked when Cheryl, the shop's artist and owner, agreed to do a giveaway with my blog!



Q&A w/ Cheryl

1.) Tell us a little about Lavender Cottage.

My journey into making jewelry began 20 years ago when I was given a gift of handmade earrings from a friend. I was amazed that she had made them herself. I bought some beads that very week, and learned how to make earrings. Since then, making jewelry has been a passion and a joy that keeps my life in perspective. My style has evolved and grown over the years, and I am now working full time from my home studio overlooking a garden filled with lavender. I am mostly self-taught, but took an online course in fusing fine silver which got me started in metalsmithing. I haven't looked back since!

2.) How did you come up with that name for your shop?

I'm an avid organic gardener, and have always loved growing lavender. Each year I plant more and more, and it has become the main theme of my garden. My studio window looks directly over my lavender bed.

3.) What inspires you to create such unique pieces?

I grew up in Chicago, and was surrounded by all the culture and art that that great city provides. My mother was in college pursuing a teaching degree for art, and often took me along to the Art Institute and the Field Museum where I was fascinated by just about everything I saw there. That background, combined with my love of gardening and nature are the two things that inspire me the most.

4.) What's your fave piece in your shop?

Definitely the Galadriel's Dream wide silver cuff. I really love the organic forged shape, and the "tear" in the metal. I also love the Tolkien books, and the elf queen Galadriel was one of my favorite characters. I really do picture her wearing that cuff in the forests of Lothlorien!



5.) What type of girl do you envision wearing your jewelry?

Truthfully, I don't have a particular type of person in mind when I make most of my pieces. I have been amazed by the diversity in my customers who have ranged from young urban professionals, to solitary artists living in the country, to stay at home moms, retirees, and everyone in between! I also have a surprising number of men who have me adapt my pieces for them. One of these days I plan to start a men's line in my shop.
