Q&A w/ Bijoux d'Odalisque

1.) Tell us a little about BijouxOdalisque.

Bijoux d'Odalisque was inspired by a market full of lackluster jewelry. Many famous jewelry designers find a "niche" and produce variations on the same deign for decades. If you want something unique, yet still a couture, "high-end" style you can find it here!
Most of our designs are one of a kind or made in limited edition so each and every customer is purchasing an original, wearable piece of art.

2.) What does "Bijoux d'Odalisque" mean?

Bijoux d'Odalisque means "Jewels of the Odalisque". It was inspired by a trip to Paris where Ingre's Odalisque painting hangs in all it's glory - a tribute to texture, color, extravagance, and living a lavish lifestyle. Even the hand-dyed silk ribbon used on our packaging has been carefully selected to mimic the colors of the original "Grande Odalisque" painting.

3.) What inspires you to create your jewelry?

Inspiration comes from the most obscure places - damask fabrics, decor magazines, wallpaper, art history, perfume, lifestyles of famous persons (i.e. Marie Antoinette, Elizabeth I, Coco Chanel), classic novels, and often things found in our own backyard - fresh herbs, rambling roses and autumn leaves. From the grand to tiniest odd curiosities add to the over-all feel of Bijoux d'Odalisque jewelry.

4.) What is your favorite piece in your shop?
Probably the "Madame X" necklace! The attention to detail is what makes our jewelry so exciting and whimsical. Have you ever seen a pearl wrapped so elegantly with gold? It has a regal, yet wearable persona - as all of our jewelry does. Any of our designs can be worn dress up or down - that's the fun of owning and wearing a Bijoux d'Odalisque design.

5.) What type of girl do you envision wearing your jewelry?

A girl or woman that does not mind being stared at, admired, or envied.

6.) What's your own personal style like?

Kind of like the jewelry designs - Should I say "casually exquisite"? I like that!

{This is a red topaz concave faceted oval briolette with a handmade wire wrapped bail. It weighs 28.4 Carats and is absolutely flawless. It hangs from a delicate, gold fill chain that has two tiny faceted red corundum rondelles hand linked near the toggle clasp. The chain is 17.5 inches long.
