Q&A w/ Demi

1.) Please tell us a little about the Amoronia etsy shop.

Hi all! I'm Demi from Greece and I started Amoronia, my Etsy shop, two years ago. Some friends encouraged me to, and I've been enjoying being part of the Etsy community ever since.


2.) What does "Amoronia" mean?

Amoronia was coined from 'Amor vincit omnia'. This phrase comes from Virgil's Eclogue X, line 69. It is one of the most beautiful verses in Latin and in English it translates as 'Love conquers everything'.


3.) Your profile states that you created your very first necklace out of "mud." :) I guess it's always been your destiny to create jewelry, huh?

I have been interested in making jewelry from a very early age. I made my first beads out of mud when I was five. Because I couldn't find proper cord around, I tore a leaf from a corn plant in a field nearby and made something like a cord, made holes in the beads and threaded them, leaving my necklace in the sun to dry! Jewelry has always been one of my passions in life.

4.) What inspires you to create your jewelry?

Nature is primarily a source of inspiration for me, but also books and stories might be a reason why I will start making something. I only make what I like.

5.) Why is it important to you, to use recycled items when creating your jewelry?

I grew up in the city, but spent summers in the countryside. The city seemed to me like a huge waste land, so I realized that I don't want the whole planet to look like one too! I try to use as few new materials as possible, and very often I resort to old pieces of jewelry, things that people bring me, found objects, old clothes or accessories, vintage buttons, papier mache, bamboo, old books, magazines and so on.


6.) What type of girl do you envision wearing your jewelry?

Incorporating recycled materials into my designs is creatively challenging, but it also implies versatility in style. And versatility in style means that Amoronia can cover many different tastes. Especially eco-minded buyers, who also happen to love a touch of glamour, the people who love to wear one of a kind items -and definitely the intellectual girls!

7.) What's your fave piece in your shop?

If I must pick one favorite piece from my shop, it will have to be the Lena Horne Legacy Neckace. I will always cherish that lady.

8.) What's your own personal style like?

I am definitely eclectic. I love how some pieces in my wardrobe never seem to go out of style. I reach for those quite often. I also keep an eye on trends and designer fashion, but I only buy something if I really like it. I love to combine styles, because I love the idea that it's the human being's personality adding style to clothes, not the other way around. I also love how jewelry can make one's style more personal. When I think of what to wear in the morning, I usually choose the jewelry first!
