Q&A w/ Erika (Shop Owner)

1.)Tell us a little about Uniquely E Jewelry.

I’m a stay at home mom with a penchant for crafting, designing, and creating anything. I love home décor and DIY projects so creating jewelry was just another project I decided to attempt and I fell in love with it. I made a lot of jewelry growing up and even sold some handmade polymer clay earrings in my mom’s craft booth when I was about 9 years old. My aunt still wears a pair she bought from me at that craft show and it cracks me up.

Fortunately, my designs and skills have improved quite dramatically and I’m really excited to see the way my brand is starting to become more defined. I feel like I’ve finally gotten to a place where I know what I like to make, how I like to photograph those designs, and represent my brand with packaging and marketing.

2.) What inspired you to get into recycled jewelry design?

In the beginning of my “Etsy” business I was all over the place design wise. I made anything and everything jewelry related and used every material I could get my hands on. The result was a rather crazy and eclectic (in a bad way) shop, but it also gave me a lot of creative inspiration to play with materials. I was really into creating pieces with resin and paper and decided that the washers laying on the floor of my dad’s garage would make a cool pendant. From there I started adding in vintage buttons and combining unexpected materials. I love finding an object and finding a way to make it into something beautiful to wear.

3.) What separates your jewelry from others out there on Etsy?

I think jewelry is one of those niches that you’ll never have a completely brilliant or truly one of a kind piece that has never been seen before. But I feel I’ve finally defined my own little niche within that area by offering colorful, feminine, and sometimes bold pieces that represent a little bit of my personality. Every sale I make brings me so much joy and I have put a significant amount of effort into making an impression on every customer through handmade packaging, handwritten thank you cards, and excellent customer service.

4.) What's your favorite piece in your shop?

I don’t have a favorite piece in particular but I love my newest line of painted wood beads wrapped in seed beads. {See a piece HERE} I love the striped texture of each bead, the lightweight feel of each necklace, and the bold statement each necklace makes while remaining subtle and not overly “loud”.

5.) What's your own personal style like?

My jewelry designs closely resemble my personal style. I love jewel tones and saturated hues like mustard, turquoise, eggplant, and crimson. I wear my own jewelry designs and love to pair unexpected colors together.
