I know I often share my fave trends of the moment and I'm always gushing about what I'm loving right now, but as I get older I'm learning to appreciate more of the classic styles that will stand the test of time. Now that I'm in my 30's I find it more important to invest in pieces that are not only made well (and can last longer than a wash or two), but are versatile and can be worn in many different ways. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love a good classic, but if it has something extra that makes it stand out then I'm a happy girl. This wrap top from Banana Republic is the perfect example of that. It has a classic and sophisticated shape that's super flattering, and the ruffles give it that extra flare that makes it anything but simple. I think Banana Republic has always been so good about designing styles that are classic, but still trendy and fun. I love that I can wear this top to the office with a cropped trouser or pencil skirt, and then transition it to the weekend with a great frayed jean or leather skirt. Sure, I love splurging on those fun & trendy styles that are "must-haves" right now, but adding pieces like this to my closet allows me to have more outfit options long after that "trendy" piece fades away. I always say, treat yourself to the trendy pieces, but in moderation and at more affordable price points, and then spend a little extra on those pieces that will linger longer in your closet. It's all about a balance, y'all. ;) And speaking of balance, If you're a long-time follower of mine then you know that I always have to balance something simple with something fun. I'd say this top and these flats are the perfect balance. Of course, I couldn't just stop with the color in my flats (y'all know I love color!), so I added bright pops of red with my vintage earrings and vintage silk scarf -- with a red lip to match!

How do y'all feel about investing in pieces that are less trendy and more classic? Are you all about adding the most trendy "of the moment" pieces to your wardrobe? Or do you like a balance, like myself?
